We have purchased copies of Eugene R. Smoley, Jr.'s book Effective School Boards: Strategies for Improving Board Performance.
The book is comprised of two parts. Part 1 defines 6 elements of board effectiveness: Making Rational Decisions, Functioning Cohesively as a Group, Exercising Appropriate Authority, Connecting to the Community, Working Toward Board Improvement, and Acting Strategically.
Over the next six weeks the board will discuss these six elements. The first being "Making Reational Decisions." The discussion framework will the the series of questions on the last page of the chapter.
