Yale Elementary is in full swing, full of kids and looking sharp. Our student enrollment is up 5 students over last year and the staff has worked hard to create a schedule to accommodate every grade level and subject to ensure students have access and meet state standards. We are using a new phonemic awareness program K-2 as well as have added handwriting to second grade to ensure consistency K-2.
We have two new staff this year, a .6 classroom teacher Sarah Taylor who is teaching 4th grade primarily as well as 3rd grade writing. In addition, Cindy Riggs is working afternoons with our intervention programs for our Learning Assistance Program (LAP). They are both fantastic additions to the Yale family of staff and eager to ensure student success.
We held our annual open house and more than half of our families showed up. We hosted the kindergarten families for the first hour to ensure they had individualized attention. Kids were excited and families were happy.
Our maintenance crew has been busy sprucing up the school building and grounds. We have adequate fencing to ensure student safety and are replacing the old play structure. It has arrived and should be completed by the end of next week. Cubbies have been installed as well as new lighting in the hallway and security cameras. We are thankful for everything Scott and his crew are doing to support Yale!
The staff will begin working next week to dig into our Smarter Balanced Assessment results from last Spring to identify areas of strength and growth.
