October in the Yale Valley is absolutely gorgeous! The school grounds look great and our play structure is almost complete… students and staff have been very patient and are eager to put it to use.
Staff is planning for their first Interim Assessment window. Preparations include looking at Fall student data to determine which standards they want to begin assessing, researching on the smarterbalanced.org website to find lessons and information to guide them in fully understanding standards, and determining time frames for administration and shared scoring.
We are continuing to partner with the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District to provide outside library services to our Yale students. They are continuing with a once per week visit and streamlining the process for students putting books on hold. Yale staff is sensitive to our instructional minutes with students and has helped put supports in place to make the library time and check out efficient.
Staff and students are working hard to implement our PBIS systems. Currently, we have schoolwide expectations and common language we ALL use with students. We are in the mind frame of continually stating expectations and reteaching when needed. Our next steps will include schoolwide, classroom and individual student incentives.
Carly Hensley, our school Social Worker has begun teaching social emotional learning lessons twice per month. She is beginning with emotion recognition; recognizing our own feelings, the feelings of others and regulating our emotions. Students are having fun learning about themselves and others.
