Re: March Review
Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.
Monday’s: We used our Monday’s to prepare for Students led conferences, prepare for HSPE proctoring, and the final two Monday’s were for departments to work together. We also used some of our HSPE testing time to work with Suz Garthwaithe on the new high school FF&E decisions.
Honors and Awards: The WHS HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Club, advised by Ms. Cullison, took a young team of nine students to the HOSA State Leadership Competition in Yakima on March 22nd. The students took online tests for the first round, then the top fifteen in each category went on to the second round. There they participated in either presentations, skills test, or spell down style bees.
The following students placed in the top three places in the state and qualified to go on to National Competition in Florida this summer:
Grant Booker – 1st in state in Prepared Speaking
Virn Warndahl -1st in state in Medical Photography and received the Barbara James Service Award
Brandy Zemp – 2nd in state in Vet Science
Kayla Moody – 3rd in state in Pathophysiology Knowledge Test
Amanda Mosley – 3rd in state in Dental Terminology
In addition we had two students receive recognition from ESD 112 for their outstanding artwork. Dillon Frank and Skyler Gildersleeve both had artwork on display at the ESD and we are very proud of their work, and of their instructor, Mr. Michael Smith.
Other information: This was a difficult month to develop a rhythm. We had three days of HSPE, four early release days for student led conferences and the official end of 3rd quarter on March 28th. During the state testing window, we had the majority of our seniors make their culminating project final presentations. The adult panels were great and our students did a nice job with only 3 seniors left who have not met standard.
