RE: WPS MONTHLY UPDATE
Student Assessing/CAST and Walk to Read Up and going:
Compliments to our whole WPS Team as they meticulously, yet with a sense of urgency, worked the first three weeks of school to administer assessments, and analyze data while getting to know their students! ALL in our building play a critical role in supporting the classroom teacher, and working with students to make sure they are set up for success after the initial start of school. Support staff in particular has their nose to the grindstone in providing assessment data for our system.
Our school now has students placed appropriately for reading instruction, Walking to Read, and our intense instruction is just about in full gear. Our CAST Process highlighted academic and other needs that have already emerged, or have carried over from last year. We approach each individual situation as a challenge that we attempt to problem-solve in a manner that will meet the students' need.
Special Thanks need to go to our Technology Department which continues to polish our SIPS (Student Information . This tool becomes more and more efficient, and user friendly on almost a monthly basis. We are truly fortunate to have access to this tool!
Fall Open House.................
"Pies n Books" was expanded to "Dogs/Pies, and Books" this fall. We included the opportunities for families to show up a bit early and pay $2.00 for a hot dog, chips, and drink dinner. Participation was high and positive comments heard all around.
Margaret Deffenbaugh did an excellent job coordinating our Fall Book Sale during this time, and Liz Landrigan our volunteer coordinator had the help of several parents and volunteers on hand!
I always enjoy this evening, seeing the great effort our teachers make to connect with families, and have their students show their parents "what's up" in school!
Revamped PTSA a Presence..........
It has been very refreshing to collaborate with several of our parents as they have worked to re-initiate our PTSA presence around school. They are an action-oriented group of folks out to do GREAT things for kids and schools! This group just finished running a Fall Fundraiser that involved a minimum of disruption to school operations, yet was a positive experience as fund raisers go.
