Here is a glimpse into what’s happening in the CTE programs at WMS and WHS:
Mary Ellen Vetter will be leaving us but seeing her state championship floral team through to nationals in October.
Kim Miller and her Skills USA representatives will be heading to Louisville Kentucky on June 25th for the National Leadership and Skills Conference June 25-29.
Asha Riley held a breakfast for local business and community leaders to start the process for creating a local advisory. A local advisory will not only create opportunities for our students to job shadow and take part in internships (both virtual and real) but also build partnerships that will help us to develop relevant courses and better prepare our students with the skills businesses are looking for.
We have partnered with JH Kelly to start a job shadow program. Our first student began a 4-day job shadow this week with the potential of gaining employment at the end and a fast track into the local 290 union.
Joe Bosch’ middle school horticulture class is starting to see the fruits (or vegetables) of their labor. They will begin harvesting about a week after school is out. In addition to taking produce to the food bank every Tuesday, they will be giving fresh produce to our school families who rely on the food bags currently every week. This could impact as many as 25 families. Families will be able to come to our greenhouse and collect fresh organic produce weekly. This will give the students in the garden club a great opportunity to feel the pride in giving to those in need.
