Re: Teaching and Learning Report
Woodland School District and the Port of Woodland partnered in this year's Career Ready Fair. This is the first in-person event after a three-year pause due to Covid. Career Ready Woodland serves a dual purpose. It allows students to learn about potential careers and area businesses. It also gives businesses the opportunity to recruit future employees or to offer internships to our students who are preparing to graduate and enter the workforce. The event took place this year at WHS on March 30th.
This year’s attendance was above and beyond expectations. With 65 businesses and close to 100 representatives, it was a huge success. We are deeply appreciative of our partners at the Port of Woodland for their time and support to help make this happen.
Students from 9-12 had a chance to introduce themselves, ask questions, and learn about the many different career paths available. The kids found it highly beneficial, and feedback from parents has been positive.
Feedback from the businesses was very positive and enthusiastic. We received several compliments on how well our students engaged, including the comment below.
“Just wanted to drop a note to applaud WSD and the Port for such an incredible event yesterday! This was probably the most well-organized career fair I’ve attended for both employers AND students. The guided questions seemed to open the students up to conversation and it seemed like everyone was having a great time. We got some great feedback from students that they would love to meet our enforcement officers and I have already made a connection with someone in the area to get it on his radar.
Thank you again – see you next year!
