Guaranteed College Admission Pilot:
This year, Woodland High School is participating in a pilot organized by the Washington State Council of Presidents. The Guaranteed Admissions Pilot supports guaranteed admissions to state schools, including Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, Western Washington University, and Washington State University.
By participating in the pilot, Woodland graduates in the class of 2022 are guaranteed admission to one or more participating institutions if they meet the criteria including GPA and completion of courses for that college or university. There is an added benefit because students from participating schools will receive their admission decision sooner than most students apply for admissions.
Participating institutions require two criteria to be met for a student to be eligible for guaranteed admissions:
(1) A minimum GPA or minimum GPA/class ranking and
(2) Completion of the College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs). ®
CWU - GPA 3.0 and CADRs completion
EWU - GPA 3.0 and CADRs completion
Evergreen - GPA 2.5 and CADRs completion
WSU - GPA 3.0 and CADRs completion
WWU – GPA 3.0 and CADRs completion
If a student meets the criteria or is on track to meet the criteria, by high school completion, they are guaranteed admission to the institution. This is a major shift in practice for universities and an incredible opportunity for our students and increases the chances that those who wish to attend college, can and will continue their education.
The process does require students to apply to the institution by completing an admissions application and any additional requirements and steps by the institution; and are encouraged to engage in challenging high school coursework and maintain their high school GPA during their senior year to meet the guaranteed admission criteria. If they do, there is a guarantee of admission to the school, instead of waiting to see if they get to continue their education as in years past.
AJAC Partnership:
The Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee, more commonly known as AJAC, is looking to partner with us to locate a manufacturing apprenticeship training program here in Woodland. The partnership would utilize our old middle school shop, to establish a local adult apprenticeship training program in our region to serve the needs of the local businesses that have a high demand for manufacturing.
Since we shifted the old high school shop to the new high school facility, our old shop at Woodland Middle School is underutilized and is primarily used for storage. By allowing them shared use of this space, they would provide industry-standard equipment. The benefit of the partnership for Woodland is that they would provide access to high-quality equipment, and potentially a future pre-apprenticeship opportunity for our high school students.
Our partnership is in the early stages of development but, as the first step, AJAC is shipping a high-end piece of training equipment, a CNC machine, in mid-May.
