On March 29, I attended the Portland Career Fair for educators with Michael Green. We met many qualified candidates, and we were able to make a connection and share with them information about Woodland and how to apply to our positions. It was wonderful spending a day with people who are passionate about students and making a difference through teaching. I am attaching a picture of our booth at the fair.
Our substitute applicant pool has been growing, so I am working to interview and process candidates as quickly as possible. Some of these are new graduates from local schools. We continue to have unfilled absences, so this is a high priority.
I am teaching on April 21, at Lower Columbia College with the students in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education program. My subject is Making a Lasting Impression. These opportunities allow me to educate new teachers, represent Woodland Public Schools, and increase applications to our open positions.
We are also beginning to plan for our New Educator Training in the summer and welcoming our new hires so they are aware of the dates for training. Processing the new staff early helps with many different aspects of bringing them on, so it will start in May.
